An extensive two-month cruise around the Australian Coast was terminated days after the fatal incident of an older female passenger who was stranded by the cruise liner on a distant island.

The elderly woman had been hiking on Lizard Island with fellow passengers from the Coral Adventurer, but parted ways from the group for a rest. The vessel left without her and returned later that day after the crew discovered the woman was not present.

A large-scale search operation found her remains the subsequent day.

Authorities are examining the incident, alongside law enforcement and the state coroner.

The CEO of the cruise operator announced that guests and crew on the ship were informed that the remainder of the voyage had been terminated due to the "sad loss and previous engine troubles".

In a statement, he further stated that passengers would be issued a complete reimbursement, and said the operator was working "to organize the homeward trips of the individuals via specially arranged planes".

Regulatory bodies also released an revised announcement, and said they had "provided a order to the Master" prohibiting any new passengers from boarding the vessel.

The representative said that they would inspect the vessel in the port city upon its coming back.
