The Chinese People Remembers Jane Goodall's Legacy as a Guiding Light in Environmental Protection

The renowned primatologist has been remembered as a "source of inspiration" across the nation, with millions people paying tribute online to the environmental advocate who passed away recently at the age of 91.

This celebrated scientist and creator of the institute bearing her name was highly respected in the country, and her research and findings were widely included in Chinese educational materials, which featured her among "women of achievement" in educational resources.

Educational Impact Through Environmental Programs

Her institute's flagship Roots and Shoots program worked with more than 1,000 schools across the nation, and over three decades it trained thousands of educators and educated countless students across multiple regions about wildlife conservation and the natural world.

"Her journey is truly inspiring, and I was deeply influenced by it," a science communication expert from the National Zoological Museum stated.

"It's easy to shout slogans, but it's very challenging to actually achieve results and create change," the expert noted, who had met Goodall on many occasions.

Scientific Community and Widespread Appreciation

Multiple high-profile scientists in China offered praise to Goodall following her death.

"Through her personal efforts, she persistently campaigned for animal and environmental protection, hoping that humanity would cherish and protect nature," the specialist commented.

Another scientist from the national research institute described Goodall as "an exemplar for all biologists and naturalists."

Enduring Relationship with China

Official news outlets noted Goodall's "long-standing connection with China," which she visited for the 17th time last year, and gave an interview to national television, remarking on ecological improvements in the nation.

"Her environmental philosophy and approach have influenced numerous individuals in China," stated local news sources.

In 2017, Goodall spoke about the transformations in the country since her initial trip two decades prior, with government efforts driven in part by the decline of environments such as the Yangtze River basin, and the emergence of rare public protests.

"It is certain that more and more Chinese have become aware of environmental problems and the risk of the disappearance of numerous animals due to people's actions," she said.

Goodall said it was accurate that the nation had created significant damage to the environment domestically and overseas, but her vision was that the country "could lead the way in phasing out the need for fossil fuels and establish a greener tomorrow."

Social Media Response and Popular Reaction

News of her death also generated countless of engagements on social media platforms such as Weibo, where a related hashtag was seen by millions, and video platforms, where Dr. Goodall shared content.

"We appreciate for your efforts to wildlife research and conservation, and for providing motivation for females worldwide," said a user's message under Goodall's latest content, in which she called for action and optimism against conflict and environmental destruction globally occurring, and the worsening impact of global warming.

"Years back, I participated in the environmental programme 'the youth program' at my educational institution, established by Jane Goodall in my campus. It has shaped my perspective significantly," shared a Weibo user.

"A conservation filmmaker", the creator of a production organization, said Dr. Goodall had become "a guiding light, leading us forward."

"The environmental principles she has sown across the world will offer promise to this magnificent but vulnerable planet," he added.
