Super Mario Galaxy Film Preview Arrives, Introducing New Characters Rosalina & Bowser Jr. Voices

The collaboration between Nintendo and Illumination released the initial complete preview for The Super Mario Galaxy Movie midweek. The reveal happened in a dedicated Nintendo presentation that focused exclusively on the soon-to-release cartoon movie.

The sequel to the 2023 hit film The Super Mario Bros. Movie, this fresh entry will transport Mario to the distant reaches of the universe. There, he will encounter a new princess and a formidable new rival in Bowser Jr., the son of the King of the Koopas.

An Interstellar Journey Inspired by Classic Games

In the vein of the games from the Wii period that act as its source material, Mario will venture away from the cozy environment of the Mushroom Kingdom to journey through the cosmos. Throughout his extensive trek, he will encounter once more some familiar faces, for instance the Luma, a popular character from the first movie.

Yet it looks like Mario and his brother Luigi will battle a different foe in the form of Bowser's irate young son, who reportedly wields metal-based powers. Worth mentioning, the teaser for The Super Mario Galaxy Movie is not exclusively centered on visuals from the Galaxy games; it also contains hints to other beloved games like Super Mario Odyssey and Bowser's Fury.

Star-Studded Voice Cast Come Back and Grow

The feature will see the return of the original voice cast, with Chris Pratt as Mario, Anya Taylor-Joy as Peach, Charlie Day as Luigi, Jack Black as Bowser, Keegan-Michael Key as Toad, and Kevin Michael Richardson as Kamek.

Joining the cast for The Super Mario Galaxy Movie are Brie Larson, who will bring to life Rosalina, and Benny Safdie, set to play Bowser Jr. This was confirmed by Chris Meledandri, the chief executive of Illumination.

A Significant Period for Mario

Mario's latest cinematic adventure is set to release near the 40-year celebration of the original Super Mario Bros. game. Beyond the film, 2026 is shaping up to be a major period for Mario and his allies.

The company has a trio of new releases publicly declared for 2026, featuring Mario Tennis Fever, a Switch 2 edition of Super Mario Bros. Wonder, and a fresh Yoshi side-scroller titled Yoshi and the Mysterious Book.

Release Date Confirmed

The Super Mario Galaxy Movie is officially set to be released on April 3, 2026.
