Nottingham Forest Have No Plans to Sack Ange Postecoglou; Alisson Sidelined; England Squad Updates

Postecoglou Secure - For Now

Starting from 9am this morning, Nottingham Forest were not intending to sack their manager but the unpredictable nature of the club and its proprietor the chairman indicates circumstances may shift rapidly.

The fans made their voices known on Thursday, calling for the exit of the coach who took over from an East Midlands hero and it is difficult to turn the tide once that happens.

The Australian is the owner's choice, the owner having selected him long before the previous manager was sent packing. Everyone at Forest anticipated a period of transition but to be winless in six matches and losing at their own ground to opposing teams were not anticipated outcomes when he arrived last month.

Postecoglou was intended to change the style but he has his tactical philosophy, which is very different to his predecessor, so there is an acceptance that these things take time. Patience, however, is not a quality often observed at Forest. The upcoming league fixtures are against tough opponents, so things are not going to get easier for the manager.

Alisson Injured for The Reds

The Liverpool manager addressed the media:

“The goalkeeper is not part of the squad tomorrow and he won’t travel to Brazil for the national team matches. The forward is returning to training this afternoon, let’s see where he is. The same can be said for the winger. It depends on how fast the recovery goes.

“I would not expect if he [Alisson] returns for the initial match after the national team pause. From there on progress may be a bit faster or a bit more gradual. It’s difficult to say. I’m not a doctor so I am unable to confirm if it is the identical issue.”

Giorgi Mamardashvili will play instead of Alisson.

“I think we’ve observed against Southampton how seamlessly he has fitted in. We were aware we were bringing in a very good goalkeeper. When he made his debut that’s a demonstration he’s adjusted really well to the team. It’s not a surprise because he’s a quality player. Now he can perform the role we’ve needed to accomplish so many occasions in the past covering for the main keeper, like we’ve done so many times before.”

Preview of Matches

Without a loss in the league since their Friday night opener, the Cherries early momentum has been stalled by consecutive draws: at home to Newcastle and at Leeds last week. The Cottagers travel to the Vitality on tonight, presenting Bournemouth a good opportunity of recapturing winning ways and climbing the table. After a hectic off-season, the manager has sought consistency in his lineup choices.

Trailing 2-1 at their opponents, the coach made a triple change to reintroduce three regular players – David Brooks, Alex Scott and Marcus Tavernier – to his XI and was rewarded with a equalizing goal. Bournemouth have also maintained defensive stability, allowing only one goal in four games between the away games to strong opponents. The defender, often featuring in an otherwise new defensive unit, has been crucial to the squad's cohesion. The defender received accolades from the boss for his performances and threat at attacking set-pieces – as evidenced by his headed assist for the leveling goal at the venue.
