Moscow Continuously Targeting British Satellites, Military Space Head Reports

Moscow is trying to disrupt British defense space systems frequently, as stated by the leader of the British Space Command.

Major General Paul Tedman disclosed that Moscow's military were actively trying to disrupt UK-based military activities on a weekly basis and were carefully observing the country’s space assets.

“We’re seeing our satellites facing interference by Russian forces on a fairly regular basis,” he stated.

The United Kingdom manages approximately six specialized defense space systems for communication and observation, which the general noted were equipped with counter-jamming technology.

He added: “They’ve got equipment on board that can see UK space assets and are trying to collect information from them.”

Global Space Threats

The danger of orbital disruption is not limited to the United Kingdom. Earlier this fall, Germany’s defence minister, Boris Pistorius, revealed that Moscow was monitoring two Intelsat satellites used by the German military.

“They are capable of disrupting, disable, manipulate or kinetically disrupt space assets,” he said at a space conference in Berlin.

Allied Response

In response to increasing global friction, the United Kingdom and United States recently conducted their initial joint space operation in space, in what military leaders hailed as a major step forward in international partnership.

Between 4 and 12 September, a US satellite was repositioned in orbit to examine a UK satellite and verify it was functioning properly. The test was conducted under a joint defense initiative, a joint military framework aimed at improving satellite defence and durability.

“Expertly executed with American Space Command, I could not be more pleased or impressed of the quick advancement we are making with our allies,” Tedman said.

Increasing Tensions

The growing orbital conflict comes as tensions with Russia continue to rise.

The UK foreign secretary, the foreign secretary, stated recently that the UK was prepared to respond after the US president, Donald Trump, publicly urged Nato allies to intercept intruding Russian aircraft.

During an address to the UN in September, Cooper censured Russia's “inflammatory and irresponsible” incursions of NATO territory in recent weeks, including events over Baltic nations, Eastern Europe and Southeastern Europe.
