German Drone Disruptions Contribute to Europe’s Security Concerns

Munich joins a growing group of EU airfields disrupted by unmanned aircraft reports in the past few days, including seventeen flight cancellations, 15 diverted elsewhere, and thousands of passengers facing problems to their trips overnight.

Several people claimed spotting unmanned aircraft in the vicinity of the airport, with a additional report afterwards established within the no-fly area, obliging aviation authorities to halt activities awaiting inquiry.

It is still unknown how many, or which models, UAVs were engaged.

The incident occurs shortly prior to the final days of the Oktoberfest event, which had previously experienced problems in recent days due to a reported danger in the city.

Deutsche Flugsicherung GmbH, the national flight management organization responsible for the German airspace, stated last week that drone sightings near airfields are rising, with 144 incidents to date in the current year, as opposed to 113 in 2024, and 99 in 2023.

Foresee the reports and the connected disruption to fuel the conversation about Europe’s air defences, shortly after the European Union summit in the Scandinavian city highlighted certain disputes – mainly along regional divisions – about the newly proposed “UAV barrier” plan.

Today is the third of October, 2025, and we bring you the latest from Europe.
